Tabataba (1988)
Madagascar, land of talking animals, dancing lemurs, and dictator DJs. The time is the late 1940s, and the Malagasy people have risen up against the French in a bid for their freedom only to be brutally crushed. Strangely for a film that deals with such topics, Tabataba is very much devoid of any sort of passion. It is a very theatrical and dialogue-heavy work. There are some nice shots of the Malagasy countryside, but that is about it. Really only worth watching for the value of seeing an actual film from Madagascar.
